Looking forward to sleeping through the night?

Do you have a burning question you’d like to ask a sleep professional?

What makes sleep so important?

We all need sleep! But, in today’s society, getting enough sleep can be looked at as a luxury or a sign of laziness. Really, the right amount of sleep is a crucial part of a child’s development, and for everyone’s well being.

Here are my top 5 reasons why getting enough sleep should be a top priority:

  1. Sleep keeps you healthy. When you sleep you produce proteins that your body needs to fight infection, illness and stress. Too little sleep and you’re more likely to become sick.

  2. Sleep promotes growth. The growth hormone is primarily secreted during deep sleep. So while your little one is sleeping, they really are growing!

  3. Sleep aids brain development. Sleep helps with learning, memory, information processing and other cognitive tasks. In research studies, children that slept longer had higher IQ’s!

  4. Sleep affects weight starting in infancy. Getting too little sleep causes hormonal irregularities, which can lead to obesity.

  5. The cells in your brain get rid of their waste material when you are asleep. This is why you feel ‘foggy’ when you don’t get enough sleep! Chronic under sleeping can even contribute to the development of brain related conditions like Alzheimer’s.
